It is an honor to join this important community newspaper and bring to its readership informative articles on the new era in construction. I hope that through these articles you will be educated on new practices in the industry that are not only advantageous for you but also for the environment. The future of construction is now environmentally aware. “Green” construction will be more efficient, money-saving, and healthier for the environment. Of course, we cannot ignore the economic reality— in March, new construction decreased by 5.9 percent in relation to January and 26 percent compared to March of last year, and new home sales declined as well. Once we are able to overcome these economic difficulties, however, construction will bounce back stronger than before, especially with new efficient and environmentally friendly practices. This new era will bring new markets, professions, technologies, and services, not to mention products that have never been seen in construction before. This potential means we must be at the forefront of the industry revolution. On March 11, 2010, the International Code Council (ICC), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (ASHRAE), the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) announced the launch of a new organization that will implement new building codes not only in the U.S. but also throughout the world. The International Green Construction Code (IGCC) will give the construction industry a new set of codes that will cover more and will help advance the industry with more efficiency in the U.S. and around the world. It goes without saying that the creation of the International Green Construction Code is one of the most significant developments in the construction industry in the last 10 years. I will continue to inform you about the developments in this new green direction that the industry is heading in through these articles. I will talk about the future but I will also explain the past and the negative effects the industry once had. We’ll learn about the different requirements needed to certify a building as LEED. Another topic will be green construction in Weston. The city already has a number of certified buildings with the new standards. Other topics I will touch upon are: green schools and how they benefit our children and the community; government incentives to build under these new standards; how to refit existing properties to save energy and water; lastly, I’ll touch on the creation of better adobes and how this will improve your property’s value. This will be a big commitment—for me to continue to inform you and for you to participate in this new movement toward better living for our children, the community and the planet as a whole. Finally, I am proud of my participate in this intelligent movement that aims to improve our standards of living and supports an economical concept that preserves the environment and works to recuperate the damage already done to our ecosystems. This new movement will touch all areas in construction, remodeling and decorating and will begin to gain more speed as the economy improves. It will soon become the standard in modern construction and will in turn become the motor of the economic recovery in this country. Constructores “verdes” En las puertas de la revolucion industrial Es un honor para mí formar parte informativa de este importante periódico de la comunidad con un tema tan interesante, novedoso, favorable para todos y a su vez para el ambiente. A través de mis artículos quiero ser fuente informativa sobre todos los cambios que se están llevando a cabo en esta nueva era de la construcción. . El futuro de la construcción se proyecta verde más saludable, más eficiente y más ahorrativo. Claro, no podemos tapar el sol con un dedo y evadir la realidad que estamos viviendo. En el mes de marzo de acuerdo a los indicadores económicos los permisos de nuevas construcciones decayeron un 5.9% con relación a enero y un 26% con relación al ano anterior, así como también un descenso en la venta de casas nuevas. Pero una vez que nos sobrepongamos a esta crisis, definitivamente la construcción se levantara aun mas fuerte ya que promete ser altamente eficiente, más saludable y mas consiente con el ambiente, manteniendo un balance ecológico , donde completamente los beneficiados seremos todos. Tenemos que estar a la vanguardia de esta nueva era que poco a poco va creciendo creando nuevos mercados, nuevas profesiones, nuevas tecnologías, nuevos servicios y el diseño de nuevos productos nunca antes visto en el campo de la construcción. En Marzo 11 del 2010 el Consejo internacional de códigos (ICC), la Sociedad Americana de Ingenieros de Aires Acondicionados y Calefacción (ASHRAE), El Consejo de Construcción Verde de los Estados Unidos (USGBC) y la Sociedad Norte Americana de Ingenieros de Iluminación (IES) han anunciado el lanzamiento del organismo que llevara a cabo el implemento obligatorio de los nuevos códigos de construcción tanto en los Estados Unidos como Internacionalmente. El Código Internacional de la Construcción Verde (IGCC), proveerá a la industria de la construcción con un lenguaje nuevo y más amplio e implementara la aplicación de estos códigos de tal manera que acelerara esta industria con mayor eficiencia en todos los Estados Unidos y el mundo. Cabe destacar que la creación de los Códigos Internacionales de la Construcción Verde es uno de los pasos más significantes de la Industria de la Construcción en los últimos 10 anos. Por medio de este medio me estaré comunicando con Ustedes con temas relacionados completamente a esta nueva tendencia. Estaremos hablando sobre la Construcción del pasado y su efecto negativo en relación a este nuevo movimiento. Conoceremos los diferentes requisitos para certificar a una construcción LEED. Otro tema importante será sobre la Construcción Verde en Weston, es importante mencionar que ya existen construcciones Certificadas bajo estas nuevos Standards. Estaremos hablando sobre las escuelas verdes y sus beneficios para nuestros hijos y la comunidad, conoceremos también los incentivos que ofrece el gobierno en esta nueva transformación. Así como también la rehabilitación de las propiedades ya existentes lo cual será de gran importancia ya que explicare sobre el ahorro de energía, agua y la creación de lugares más sanos para vivir, dándole así una revalorización a las mismas. El compromiso es grande, tanto para mi de informarles como para todos ustedes de formar parte de este movimiento que tarde o temprano nos va a exigir un cambio para el bienestar de nuestros hijos, de la comunidad y del planeta en el que vivimos. Como conclusión puedo decir que me siento muy orgullosa de formar parte de este movimiento inteligente donde por primera vez se le ha dado prioridad a la calidad de vida del ser humano, al medio ambiente, y a un concepto de economía, de preservación y recuperación de lo ya existente que permite la conservación del ecosistema. Es una tendencia que ha abarcado todas las áreas de la construcción, remodelación y decoración y que esta a la espera de una recuperación de la economía para introducirse con fuerza y convertirse en el Standard de la Construcción moderna y el motor del crecimiento de la economía en este país. Espero verlos en mi próxima edición, a donde estaremos explicando el significado de la Construcción LEED y sus beneficios. Construye Verde y vive mejor!
