WESTON UNIVERSITY  – Provided behind the Scenes Look Into Fire and Emergency Medical Services

Weston University program day on January 26, 2011 provided students with a behind the scenes look and hands on experience with Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Weston University students now have a much better understanding of what it takes to staff a 24/7 operation, what costs are involved, what services are provided as well as a multitude of career opportunities that are available in such a large organization.

Students began the day at 8 a.m. at Weston City Hall where they were greeted by City Manager John Flint, Weston Fire Chief Harris Bouchillon and Fire Marshal, Captain Robert Oberrieth. After a brief history of the evolution of fire service and an overview of the various fire related disciplines, students headed to Fire Station No.81. There they toured the equipment, suited up for a mock call and learned about the engine and rescue technology and capabilities. After their hands-on fire experience the group traveled to the Main Public Safety Building in downtown Fort Lauderdale where they received a behind the scenes look at the dispatch and communications headquarters.

 El programa de la Universidad de Weston del 26 de enero, 2011 instruyo a los estudiantes con una mirada tras escenarios para experimentar por si mismos los servicios de bomberos y médicos de emergencia. Estos estudiantes ahora tienen un mejor entendimiento de lo que toma hacer una operación 24/7, los costos que involucra, cuales servicios se prestan asi como las multiplesoportunidades de estudio que están disponible en esta organización tan grande.

Los estudiantes comenzaron el dia a las 8 a.m. en el City Hall y fueron recibidos por el Gerente de la Ciudad, John Flint, el Capitan Jefe de Bomberos de Weston Harris Bouchillon y el Mariscal de Bomberos Capitan Robert Oberrieth. Despues de una breve historia de la evolución del servicio de bomberos y un repaso sobre alfunas disciplinas bomberiles, los estudiantes se trasladaron a la estación No. 81. Alli revisaron los equipos, se prepararon para una llamada de atención y aprendieron acerca de la tecnología y capacides de los equipos de rescate y maquinarias. Luego de vivir esta experiencia, visitaron el edificio de Seguridad Publica en Ft Lauderdale para conocer las operaciones del centro de comunicaciones

STOP MEANS STOP !!

Those living in or visiting the Weston Hills Country Club community may already be well aware of the fact that too many drivers don’t come to a complete stop at the Weston Hills Drive stop sign before turning onto Weston Hills Boulevard. If you happen to know one of those people… please send them this

article. Due to the volume of drivers not stopping at the stop sign, particularly during the morning commuting hours, an electronic message board has been placed at this intersection by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, to remind drivers, with an additional visual aid, that indeed mean stop.  

Slowing down or “rolling” through a stop sign is nothing less than nice terminology for running a stop sign. It is illegal, and it is dangerous. Running stop signs is a major cause of traffic accidents and fatalities. 

On average there are 14,000 cars involved in fatal automobile accidents caused by running a stop sign each year.

Stop signs are primarily installed to avoid accidents and all drivers have to come to a complete halt when they approach a stop sign, only then can they proceed further. Individuals running stop signs is not exclusive to this location or community. Stop means S T O P.

Preventing Accidents At Stop Signs – Always come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Count to three after stopping and check for cars in each direction.

Aquellos que residen o visitan la comunidad de Weston Hills Country Club ya deben conocer muy bien sobre el hecho que muchos conductores no hacen una parada completa en el Stop que está en Weston Hills Boulevard antes de cruzar en Weston Hills Boulevard. Si usted por casualidad conoce a alguna de estas personas…por favor envíele este articulo. Debido al volumen de conductores que no se detienen en el Stop, particularmente durante las horas de la mañana, la oficina del Sheriff  colocó una pizarra electrónica en esa intersección para recordárselo, con un aviso adicional que de hecho significa PARE.

Reduciendo la velocidad o pasarse un Stop no significa otra cosa que se han “omitido” el Stop. Esto es ilegal y es peligroso. Omitir un Stop es una de las causas mayores de accidentes de transito y fatalidades. Un promedio de 14,000 vehículos cada año están involucrados con accidentes automovilísticos fatales causados por omitir un STOP. 

Los STOP están instaladas principalmente para evitar accidentes y todos los conductores deben detenerse completamente  al llegar al STOP, solamente después es que pueden seguir. Hay otras comunidades donde se omiten los STOP, no es solamente en esta comunidad. Stop significa PARE.

Previniendo los accidentes en los signos de STOP,  es detenerse completamente, contar hasta tres y chequee si viene carro en cada dirección.

CITYWIDE FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING CONDUCTED thru MARCH 14th

Fire hydrant flushing will be conducted throughout the City during daytime hours. The program began on January 24th and will continue through Monday, March 14th. Flushing is done to increase the quality (color and disinfecting residual) of the water in the distribution system. Homeowners are not likely to notice a difference in water pressure or color, however if a dishwasher is running, it may pull some cloudy water into the home. The water is still safe and running the tap for a few minutes will produce clear water again. En espanol – LAVADO DE HIDRANTES DE LA CIUDAD   hasta el 14 de marzo – Se está llevando a cado el lavado de los hidrantes de incendio en toda la ciudad durante el dia. El programa comenzó el 24 de enero y continuará hasta el lunes, 14 de marzo. Este lavado se hace para aumentar la calidad (color y desinfección residual) del agua en el sistema de distribución. Los residentes pueden no notar la diferencia en la presión del agua o el color, sin embargo, si el lavavajillas está funcionando, puede tirar un poco de agua turbia hacia adentro de la casa. El agua sigue siendo segura y abriendo el grifo durante unos minutos va a producir agua clara otra vez.
