The Rotary Club of Weston, the City of Weston, and the YMCA of Broward County will hold a Get FIT Pep Rally/Media
Event at Indian Trace Elementary School at 9:00AM, Tuesday, December 6, 2011.
Indian Trace Elementary School was the winner of the 2010 Mayor’s Challenge
On December 6th
at Indian Trace Elementary School, the Rotary Club of Weston will host a pep
rally for students at the 2010 winning Mayor’s Cup Challenge school.
Indian Trace Elementary and every elementary school in Weston will each be
presented with two Sports Kits (soccer & football) donated by DICK’S
SPORTING GOODS.
Miami Heat Forward,
JAMES JONES, a huge supporter of the Get FIT initiative will be on hand to
encourage students to continue their exercise participation and rally them for
the upcoming Mayor’s Challenge Cup.
Weston Mayor Eric
Hersh will speak with students on the benefits of healthy eating and exercise
and encourage them to try and win back the Mayor’s Challenge Cup
for a second year in a row.
A Y-Fit
Demonstration with students will complete the event in a get up and get moving
fashion!
In its second year,
Get FIT is a partnership between the Rotary Club of Weston, the City of
Weston and the YMCA of Broward County to help make Weston the Fittest City in
Florida and raise funds for the development and implementation of after school
physical activity programs at elementary schools in Weston where PE is being
eliminated or cut back.
Mayor’s Challenge Cup 1-mile walk/run: Sunday, December
11, 2011 at 9AM at Weston Town Center. The winning school will be the
school with the most participants as a percentage of their school enrollment.
Get FIT Fest: Sunday, December
11, 2011 from 9AM-2PM in Weston Town Center. A free health, wellness and
fitness festival. Activities, demonstrations, health tests and
screenings, live entertainment, kids activities, health and fitness vendors.
